Zoella & Alfie Getting A Waxwork // My Opinion

In the last 24 hours, it was announced by the tabloids and by Zoe & Alfie themselves, that they are to be immortalised in wax at Madame Tussauds. I let out a big sigh when i heard this and started to question life.

I'm not a person who begrudges others success, if anything i completely encourage it and have a lot of respect for individuals who have made a name for themselves but there comes a time when it goes too far and i have to stand back and ask myself, Why?

I've never been to Madame Tussauds myself but i have been informed that there is a suggestion box at the end of the tour where you can recommend a famous person to have their wax work made. I can imagine there have been all sorts of suggestions but when i read that Zoe & Alfies names were put in more than most, i couldn't help but wonder. Has this YouTube fame gone too far?

Like i said, i don't begrudge anyone their success but there are so many more deserving people who have contributed to our society and been a massive part of our lives than a couple of young adults who make videos. Legends like the late Rik Mayall who was a massive part of my life growing up and had millions of people laughing. Hugh Laurie who is a comedic genius. Percy Sledge, a Soul legend..i could go on. Zoe & Alfie have a fan base granted but is their fame worthy of such an honour? Personally i don't think so. In my opinion, neither of them have contributed to British society. Sure they go on about charity and such but what have they really done? Talked about anxiety? I do that in my job, am i being turned into a life sized barbie? Am i hell! Done pranks on people? We were all kids once, does the public have their photos taken with us? Afraid not.

My point here is that although Zoe & Alfie have some celebrity status, i don't believe they should be at Madame Tussauds. Their audience age range is teenager/young adult; there are going to be thousands of adults and even children/teenagers who go to Madame Tussauds and not have a clue who these two people are! But then they will turn the corner and instantly recognise true celebrities and icons such as Marilyn Monroe & The Queen.

Madame your wax for another day

  1. I think the problem is that for Madame Tussauds probably the customer group most likely to want to visit (from what I understand) are teens who want the opportunity for that all important selfie with their idols, so One Direction or Zoella, they aren't interested in Hugh Laurie etc and pester power counts for a lot!

    1. I completely agree. Madam Tussauds has always been an attraction and i won't lie, i'd love to be able to stand with Johnny Depp's waxwork and snog his face off but i think the YouTube culture is becoming a bit too big for it's boots

I love reading your comments, i'll always reply so write as many or as few as you like :) It's always good to talk
