What You Need To Know About Selecting The Perfect Glasses Frames!

A friend of mine recently got diagnosed with a vision problem, leading to her needing her first pair of glasses. She mentioned to me about how stressful selecting her frames was as there just seemed to be so much to think about. From the price tag - glasses don’t come cheap, to the shape and style of frames, there’s a lot to consider.

While men seem to pick any pair of glasses and look great, for us girls it’s a different story. Just like some haircuts suit some people but not others, not all glasses frames are flattering on every face and it’s important to realise that. At some point or another, the chances are we will all need glasses. Be it for reading or for some other vision problem, glasses will feature in almost all of our lives at some point.

With that in mind, I thought I would share some tips for selecting the perfect glasses frames. So that when it comes to picking out your first pair, you know all the best ways to go about it.

Be willing to invest

If you want to save money, you can buy a cheap pair of glasses. But if you buy cheap, the glasses won’t last for long. If you want glasses that will last you for years - the lenses might need to be changed but the frames will last, you need to be willing to invest. On glasses, anything between £65 and £300 is a good amount to spend, as it guarantees you a good quality frame design.

Invest in your glasses, take good care of them, and they can last you for years. Over time, they may require a small amount of maintenance work, but by investing you can save yourself a lot of money. You may find that after a couple of years of wear, you need to look at reglazing your glasses. When you reglaze spectacles, the frames are strengthened and returned to their former glory. Chips and scratches are removed, and your glasses look just like new again, giving you a few years of extra wear.

Take your face shape into account

Once you’ve decided how much you’re happy to spend on your glasses, the next step is to think about the frames that will suit you. Whether a certain pair of frames suit your face, tends to be down to two things; your face shape and colourings.

First things first, determine the shape of your face. Once you’ve done that, the next step is to get an idea of which frames suit which face shapes. For example, for a round face, rectangular or square frames tend to work best because they slim the face. While for a square face, round or oval shaped glasses tend to look best. You can find out more about different face shapes and the best glasses frames online.

As for the colour of your frames, it’s a good idea to pick a shade that compliments your skin tone. It’s also important to be careful of bright colours, as they can often leave you looking washed out. If you have to wear your glasses on a daily basis, it’s best to stick to neutral colours or designs. For instance, you can’t go wrong with tortoiseshell. If you’re stuck for a frame colour, black is perfect as it looks great on all skin tones and goes with everything.

So there you have it, everything that you need to know about selecting the perfect frames. Have a browse online, try some different designs and you can find the perfect frames for you. Happy shopping!
